Spinets

The italian spinet is one of the most practical instruments where space is of an issue and you need an instrument that is easily transportable. For continuo work the spinet is particularly useful with its distinctly clear sound and responsive action.  An English or French spinet with a greater range can also be a solution where there is limited space although not so easy to transport. However these instruments were very popular in the eighteenth century being less expensive and simpler than a harpsichord but often with a comparable compass.
