Barn conversion

This project has involved the conversion of an 80m² barn (left in the photo below) into habitable space and attaching it to the existing house (right). The owner wanted to maximise the feeling of space and create a multi-usage room for family gatherings - summer & winter. This part of France can have very cold winters and in designing a successful home it is important to pay attention to detail in its heating and insulation.
(Please note that this project is not yet completed therefore photos show 'work in progress'.)

 barnopenings

New openings including dormer windows have been put in the barn. The 1st floor terrace is to be continued along the barn to give outdoor sitting & dining space overlooking the garden.

The house and the barn have been joined at the back by a well-insulated wooden 'hallway'
(below) which will have big glass doors to maximise light on the north side.
