Flemish Single Manual Harpsichord
after
Joseph Joannes Couchet, 1679
The original instrument is in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C. It is the only extant single manual from the workshops of the famous
Ruckers/ Couchet family with its original chromatic-bass-octave keys, compass and disposition. The registrations shown below were all used by Couchet depending on the musical use the instrument was put to,
showing the great diversity of sound available to the musician. I am offering this choice in my very close copy of one of the last instruments to come from the greatest harpsichord-making dynasty in
history. Not only was the original extremely practical in its construction and design but it had a beauty of tone unsurpassed by all other harpsichords of its genre. The possibility of transposition to
the three pitches indicated give a level of versatility eagerly sought by many working musicians, both students and professionals. For those who would like to discuss the instrument in detail please don't
hesitate to contact me.
